River Street Planning & Development


River Street's preservation practice includes documentation and analysis of historic resources, preparation of historic preservation plans and comprehensive plan elements, development of local historic preservation laws, preparation of building histories and National Register nominations, feasibility studies involving adaptive reuse of historic buildings and project financing using the federal Historic Preservation Tax Credit program.

Through public meetings and workshops we help communities to understand the economic benefits of historic preservation and develop practical plans to protect the irreplaceable. We have prepared a series of guidebooks for the New York State Department of State Division of Coastal Resources which outlines strategies for the redevelopment of abandoned waterfront buildings and historic properties.
