Margaret W. Irwin, Principal

Margaret Irwin has nearly twenty years of experience in community planning, economic development, community consensus building, mediation, and strategic planning. She is a confident public speaker and trainer who coordinates the firm's growing practice in the areas of public process facilitation and dispute resolution. She has designed and coordinated successful consensus-building processes for a range of community development and municipal planning initiatives across New York State.

Most recently, Ms. Irwin has been the project manager of the City of Schenectady's Vision Plan 2020. The first new comprehensive plan for the city in thirty years focuses on establishing livable neighborhoods, a thriving downtown, stable tax base and state of the art parks and recreation. She is also managing comprehensive planning processes for the Town and Village of Coxsackie and Town of Greenville, developing design guidelines for the City of Corning's commercial corridors and a coordinating a transit oriented development plan for one Schenectady neighborhood. Margaret also served as the project manager of the firm's work on the Corning and Rome Comprehensive plans and on the APA award winning City of Kingston Waterfront Development Implementation Plan.

For most of her professional career, Ms. Irwin has been actively engaged in the development of new program strategies and the formation of partnerships to support community development, affordable and special needs housing, neighborhood revitalization, and social service delivery. Before joining the firm, Ms. Irwin worked in leadership positions at several non-profit housing organizations in the City of Troy with responsibility for overall program and fund development. At Unity House and Joseph's House and Shelter, Inc., Ms. Irwin was responsible for management of shelter and supportive service programs, strategic planning initiatives, planning, facility development, and staff supervision. Ms. Irwin has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland and Hamilton College in Clinton, NY.
